About Us

The Asylum Seekers Centre (ASC) is a place of welcome, offering practical and personal support for people living in the community who are seeking asylum. Driven by human rights values since 1993, we rely on a dedicated team of professional staff, incredible volunteers, and philanthropic partners to run our life-changing programs and services..

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about supervising a team supporting vulnerable clients with their varied administration requests?
Ideally, you have supervisory or team coordination experience to step into a short-term backfill role. In the community services sector, day-to-day operations don’t slow down. This role is practical and hands-on and would suit someone who can jump right in, maintain seamless service continuity, and provide steady, visible support to our frontline team on the ground.

Key Responsibilities

  • Visible onsite leadership: Provide active, approachable leadership and guidance to the Centre Support Volunteer team on-site daily.
  • Service Continuity: Oversee day-to-day operations and service delivery of the Centre Support Program to ensure client care remains safe, consistent, and compliant.
  • Problem-Solving & Boundaries: Handle immediate operational issues, risk escalations, and team questions with professional judgment and clear boundaries.
  • Team & Duty Support: Maintain a supportive environment for staff navigating complex, face-to-face client needs.
  • Escalation: Liaise with the People & Culture Manager for all operational issues and risks.

What You’ll Bring

  • Sector Experience: Background in managing teams within community services, social care, or human services environments.
  • Strong Onsite Presence: A desire to be physically present and visible for the team, being a fully onsite role, this is essential to ensure adequate and effective coverage.
  • Operational Agility: The ability to hit the ground running, digest local procedures quickly, and keep operations running smoothly
  • Grounded Communication: Highly developed emotional maturity, calm under pressure, and a practical approach to conflict resolution and staff support.

Why Apply? If you are an experienced coordinator or supervisor looking for a targeted short-term project, between roles, or looking to apply your operational skills in an impactful community setting, we’d love to hear from you.
